Campaign Countdown: Deadite-Day Minus 1
over 7 years ago – Mon, Aug 08, 2016 at 12:54:26 AM

Hey Deadite Slayers,

We got 48 hours left to go and we still can't stop adding more cool stuff! First up, some real talk. We're over 800% funded, but costs climb proportionally, so we've had to be extra careful with what we offer. We want to provide the absolute best game—and experience—possible, while not putting ourselves in the ground doing it. This is what we got. We hope you dig it.

We're really looking forward to the one where you play as the headless deer.
We're really looking forward to the one where you play as the headless deer.

This oughta get your engines revving.
This oughta get your engines revving.

Help take us through these stretch goals by sharing, liking, posting, blackmailing your friends, and joining us in the comments! Still looking for another way to help? How about getting some groovier gameplay while you're at it! Based on your wonderful suggestions, we're adding two new add-ons to expand, enhance, and change up the board.

Fresh souls!
Fresh souls!

There's something out there... and you get to join it!
There's something out there... and you get to join it!

These add-ons each add over a square foot to the board, whether it's in killer forests or underground twists and turns. These add-ons have low impact rule variants that allow them to easily combine with any other scenario! As you get pumped for all this exciting stuff to come, let's take a look at some of the awesomeness already in the base game.

Something tells me the dagger won't be helping you too much with this one.
Something tells me the dagger won't be helping you too much with this one.

The All-Consuming Vortex is when the portal is just too hungry and the evil explodes out! This is bad news for everyone, so it's a good thing it only comes up once in the deck. This Event is also a good example of how some cards will effect humans and Deadites differently.

Need a light?
Need a light?

So how are you supposed to defend against such chaos? With the lantern, all Virtue loss is lessened by 1 and that effect extends to your adjacent allies. Definitely want to hang around whoever has this! Since this is a special item, it equips and takes effect as soon as you pick it up. There's no limit to the number of special items you can carry.

Let's make this an amazing 48 hours (or 47 hours and 40 minutes, because I type slow!) and push this game to the limit.

Keep it groovy out there!

Campaign Countdown: Deadite-Day Minus 2
over 7 years ago – Sun, Aug 07, 2016 at 01:01:01 AM

Whooo!

So much thanks to all you Deadite Slaying, Soul Sucking, Top Chopping, Witty Quip Throwing backers for one more awesome day of this campaign! A lot has happened, so let's dive right into it.

You only have yourselves to blame for unleashing this monster upon the world!
You only have yourselves to blame for unleashing this monster upon the world!

Rotten Apple Head will now officially be a part of your game. He comes with three gnarly miniatures that players can fight in an optional cinematic ending mode. What an incredible display of support you all showed in making this happen: you created a Facebook page, a fan translator site, so many of you changed your Kickstarter usernames just to make this happen.

We do not have the next stretch goal to announce. Even in the fervor of these final days, we're not going to break our promise on over-committing and offer something we can't reasonably deliver on. That said, we're working overtime to crunch numbers to make the next stretch goal a reality. You can help by letting us know what you'd like to see as a future stretch goal down in the comments and we'll prioritize what the people want as best we can.

The stream this morning was fantastic! Thank you for stopping by. Taylor is looking to knock one more of these out tonight, focusing mainly on gameplay to keep things moving quickly. Keep an eye on the comments for when that announces! The streams are taking the place of the final dev blog for the campaign, but more of them will be posted throughout the final development process.

Last Saturday, we played ED2 with some other designers and industry pros—and got a chance to sample some exciting up-and-coming games. The video above is from Ian Starcher from Petersen Games, proud backer at the Cabin Carved Dice Tier. We also got a mention on the Curators podcast! Follow the link below to listen; they mention us around the 13 minute mark, but stick around for the rest! It concludes with an interview with Tommy Hall from BackerKit, with whom we've been working.

To play us out, lets have some expansion and add-on content!

Coal Pit from Endless Isolation

Wood Pile from Endless Isolation.
Wood Pile from Endless Isolation.

These two new tiles are from the Endless Isolation expansion and interact in fun new ways with the game. The Wood Pile is a way to get one new Barricade per turn; Barricades can now be dropped anywhere on the board, allowing players to throw down a quick obstacle for pursuing baddies. The Coal Pit is a good way to keep an enemy out of the way for a while. Enemies can be buried in the Coal Pit—until they claw their way out again—when a player makes a successful hit on them near the pit. Consider using the Shovel to get them closer to the pit, since it has a knockback effect. New Events also interact with these two locations for spawning both good and bad things.

Linda uses Tongue Lash. It's super effective!
Linda uses Tongue Lash. It's super effective!

Tongue Lash is a new addition from the Director's Cut (part one) set of cards. It's an Event for Deadite players and works in a special way: they hold onto it until their next attack and then discard for an extra boost of range. A little extra range can be a great advantage, especially since your target can't reciprocate at that distance.

That's all for now! If you have any ideas—crazy or tame!—for future stretch goals, let us know in the comments. Have a good night and, as always...

Welcome New Backers!
over 7 years ago – Sat, Aug 06, 2016 at 10:59:38 PM

Hello, Backers!

First and foremost, let's welcome the 150+ new backers who have joined the campaign since last night's update went out. However you found us, thanks for joining the campaign and making this board game possible.

Please find a little time to stop by the Comment section. Say "hi" and let us know how you heard about the campaign. We're sure you have lots of questions. If you can't find that info on the campaign page or previous updates, feel free to ask in the Comments. People will be around to help.

Probably the biggest question we get from new backers is, "How do I add add-ons." Great question, because it's not very intuitive with how KS is set up. Short answer:

Tally up the dollar amount of all the add-ons you want and increase your pledge by that amount. It's that simply.

At the end of the campaign, you will receive a survey from Backerkit, our pledge manager. You select what you want at that time!

Here's a simple walk-through graphic:

Adding Add-Ons
Adding Add-Ons

Update #23 covers this as well, but don't hesitate to ask questions in the Comments or private message us. We'll make sure you are taken care of no matter what.

There is a comprehensive list of add-ons in the Campaign section. Please take a look and see what may interest you.

Switching to the topic of tiers for a moment, we want to update everyone on the status of a few of the more high-end tiers:

  • Cabin-Carved Dice - This tier of limited edition dice made from the actual move-cabin wood is over 50% sold out. We are only going to make enough to fill Kickstarter orders. So if we don't sell the 750 we have allocated for this campaign, we won't be making 750. Pretty great deal at $175 considering it comes with a Deluxe game box.
  • Comic Book Cameo - There is only 4 of 20 left. We are reserving a few spots in the 2016 X-Mas comic book for backers. The rest of the cameos will appear mostly in what we are calling Evil Dead 2: Return of Evil Ed, featuring Deadite Hitler, Bin Ladin, Rasputin, and a Mummy. This comic book will ship in 2017 in time for the 30th anniversary of the film! Pretty fun collectors item for $500.
  • Comic Book Cover Cameo - Only 1 left. Someone upgraded to the Deadite Army Figure. For $1000 you will most likely appear in the Return of Evil Ed comic book. Right on the cover! This comic book will ship in 2017 in time for the 30th anniversary of the film!
  • Deadite Army Figure - 8 of 9 left. We get it. $1750 is a good chunk of change. But this is super rare. A deadite likeness of you will ship in every box sold. Thousands and thousands of your immortal deadite visage will be played and parked on shelves for all of eternity. This comes with the Deluxe game, a larger version of deadite self, and Cabin Dice. The value of this tier far exceeds what we are asking for--and is only made possible due to our current funding level.
  • Lucky Sucker Figure - This tier has sold out a few times. Currently, there is 1 left of 3.Obviously, this is more rare than any of our likeness tiers. That's reflected in the tier price, but just like Deadite Army the cost is far below what we are paying to make it possible. We are confident this tier will sell out shortly!
Live FOREVER!
Live FOREVER!

That's a lot of info--even if this isn't your first update. Sorry about that; there's just a lot to cover as we enter the last few days of the campaign.

But I do have a few last requests:

  • Please come say "hi" in the Comment section and let us know how you found the campaign.
  • Check out game designer Taylor Smith's Twitch game play walk through: https://www.twitch.tv/whimsymachine/v/82114147
  • Please share this Update (and any others!) on FB and Twitter!
  • Please check out this fan-made FB group, Goats, Apples & Deadites Oh, My: https://www.facebook.com/groups/281108768915153/
  • Please follow us on Twitter (@gospacegoat) and like us on FB: https://www.facebook.com/spacegoatpublishing/

Thank you all again for your support. Whether you've been here since the first few minutes of the campaign or just joined us, you're the reason we are one of the Top 10 campaigns on all of Kickstarter right now!

Stay Groovy!

Campaign Countdown: Deadite-Day Minus 3
over 7 years ago – Sat, Aug 06, 2016 at 12:47:11 AM

Hello, Deadite Slayers!

We're coming up on the very last days and still blowing through stretch goals like no one's business! That's right, $525k is in the bag and that means 30 new cards in the box.

That's a lot of cards!
That's a lot of cards!

These new cards will be split up between the base game, the deluxe game, and all add-ons—no extra cost. These were all the ideas we loved but couldn't quite squeeze in, so now we're squeezing. But we all know what you're really excited for...

APPLE HEAD, APPLE HEAD? APPLE HEAD!
APPLE HEAD, APPLE HEAD? APPLE HEAD!

APPLE HEAD! This bad boy is divided into three separate miniatures and comes with his own Boss card and extended cinematic ending rules. With this guy around, just closing the portal isn't enough! The real kicker? He doesn't care whether you're human or Deadite, he just wants out and will destroy anything in his way. So, fight alongside your opposing team just long enough to stab them in the back later!

Wait, wait, wait. Another set of rules? How're you going to keep track of all these scenarios and add-ons and awesome extras? Well, fret no more:

DISCLAIMER: SGP is not liable for any ancient evils summoned by reading this book aloud.
DISCLAIMER: SGP is not liable for any ancient evils summoned by reading this book aloud.

And by popular demand, we've added more arrows to the box swap graphic! Now if you have either the Deluxe box or the Evil Ed box, you can swap to any of the other box designs for your game.

The people asked for more arrows, so we delivered more arrows.
The people asked for more arrows, so we delivered more arrows.

And to finish us off, how're you supposed to kill all those baddies we've been posting? Your [not-so-]trusty Chainsaw, of course!

Note: Chainsaw v2.0.1 no longer includes "bonus from witty rejoinder" bonus.
Note: Chainsaw v2.0.1 no longer includes "bonus from witty rejoinder" bonus.

Few enemies can survive the gouging teeth of the Chainsaw and walk it off. However, this piece of equipment isn’t entirely dependable. If the player rolls a [1] while using it, it breaks and can’t be used again until it’s brought back to the Work Shed. Without a Harness, that means your only weapon slot is taken up by a really big paperweight; with a Harness, however, you can stow the broken Chainsaw and use whatever else you got in the meantime.

Whew, and that's your day for Evil Dead 2 news! Don't forget to check out designer Taylor Smith's solo playthrough stream tomorrow 11AM PST on Twitch.tv/WhimsyMachine.

Keep it groovy it there!

BREAKING NEWS Taylor on Twitch - Game Play Schedule
over 7 years ago – Fri, Aug 05, 2016 at 11:18:17 PM

Deadit Slayers,

BREAKING NEWS

Our game designer Taylor Smith is livestreaming a solo mode runthrough of Evil Dead 2: The Official Board game Satuday 8/6 (tomorrow!) at 11AM PST. Twitch channel: twitch.tv/whimsymachine. Come see the game played blow by blow with commentary.

Please tune in and check it out. Feel free to post that link around social media. The link will post as a Twitch channel and go live when the game test begins.

Speaking of video, our tile (and one of our 3D) artists put together this fun video showing the making of the Necronomicon page. We are told a lot of bacon was used in the creation of the skin...

While we are on the topic of gameplay, let's show one more card so you guys can chat about it in the Comment Section:

Path To Hope

Trail tiles will definitely become your friend. A human character can forego their move action for one turn while on a trail tile to gain some perspective and hope of survival, thus restoring their virtue to full. This causes the trail tile to flip into a forest tile, so the Path To Hope is a little gift in the deep, dark forest.

Forest tiles are inherently more dangerous than trail tiles, since enemies will only spawn on forest tiles and the Killer Tree enemy can only move across forest (and the car) tiles. Bobby Joe is also able to find trails as a human and cover them up as a Deadite. Either way, it’s good to have her around!

We'll be back tonight with a Countdown Update (and more than likely the $525 SG update)! In the meanwhile...

Stay Groovy
