Survey Deadline today!
over 7 years ago – Tue, Nov 01, 2016 at 12:32:38 AM

Hey Soul Suckers!

Today is the last day to fill out surveys and get all of the add-ons you want! We’re closing surveys and charging cards on Backerkit at 9am PST tomorrow. It may take a few days to process, so if your card isn’t charged right away, don’t panic!

If you’re having trouble finding your survey, you can recover it here: https://evil-dead-2-the-official-board-game.backerkit.com/

If you are having Backerkit issues, you can contact them here: https://evil-dead-2-the-official-board-game.backerkit.com/faq#contact-us

So what happens if you don’t complete your Backerkit survey today? Don’t worry, you’ll still be getting your game!

But you’ll lose access to the following add-ons:

  • Tales of the Ex-Mortis Comic Bundle
  • Beyond Dead by Dawn Deluxe TPB
  • Necronomicon Ex-Mortis Poster Print
  • Super Groovy Deluxe Bundle
  • #$%@ It! Give Me Everything Bundle

Our final production numbers for Panda are not due quite yet, so we have some extra time for adding any gameplay add-ons or bundles. Those will be available for those who don’t complete their survey until the 30th of November. We are closing late-pledges and pre-orders through Backerkit for non-backers, and only the standard edition will be available for pre-order.

From here on out, we will be changing our cadence of updates. We’ll now have an update on the 1st and 15th of every month. If more urgent stuff pops up, we’ll be sure to let you all know as soon as we know. But you can keep up with all that we’re doing on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. You can also always ask us questions through the Kickstarter message system or via email at [email protected]. Generally we are most responsive Monday to Friday 9-5 PST, but we try to get to some messages on the weekend!

Stay Groovy and Happy Halloween!

Painted Mini Update
over 7 years ago – Fri, Oct 28, 2016 at 12:47:28 AM

Hey Soul Suckers,

The survey is closing this Monday, so we wanted to give you all the info we could about the painted minis. So, why has this taken so long? Many of the models we received from our designers were formatted incorrectly—as if they were video game assets—and had to be adjusted. This does not change how they look and the renders are still accurate to their final designs. Nonetheless, the conversion of these files has been time consuming. We’re still on track to ship in April, but this has pushed back the prototype timetable.

Below is one of our paint proofs for Ash:

Panda has let us know that the paint on this image is too detailed. Gradients, like the blood on the chainsaw and Ash’s abs, may be simplified. Some of the paint colors used in the above image, maybe changed to match others: the shotgun and Ash’s pants will be the same color of brown; his shoes, belts, and hair will likely all be the same black. Some of the smaller detail, like the finer characteristics in his eyes, buckles, and chainsaw bits, may be lost due to the scale. This Ash stands at 28mm so paint detailing can only get so fine.

We’re still waiting on our illustrator to provide color guides more in line with the format Panda will need to see. If you’re curious, here’s what that looks like:

We’ll definitely provide our version of this with you as soon as it’s ready. We wanted to get an update out now to keep you informed as we encroach on the closing day of the pledge manager. Note that this image has many different pantone codes; ours will have fewer.

Digital files are nice and all, but we’ll want to see actual physical figures to have a better informed idea of what these things will look like. We’ve shared this Battleborn image before from Panda, but it’s a good example of the high quality product that Panda is guaranteeing us:

Stonemeier Games also uses Panda for their figures. Though most of their figures—like the many, many figures that are included in Scythe—they do have painted resource tokens. These will be similar to our smaller item tokens included in the Deluxe version from a stretch goal. The image below links through to more samples.

Panda also provided painted minis for Mice and Mystics. Note that these miniatures have a lot more stylized texturing than our minis do.

Despite the high level of quality we’re expecting to see, we will be manufacturing approximately 5500 deluxe games or so, each with nearly one hundred figures in each. As we’ve seen from internet searches, some of those sweet Battleborn figures turned out a little….doofy. Some look pretty great still. These are images we pulled from the top image searches for “Battleborn figures.”

This one looks pretty great!
This one looks pretty great!

This one, less so.
This one, less so.

Again, pretty good!
Again, pretty good!

Oh. Oh no...
Oh. Oh no...

Not every paint job will turn out perfect and none will look as good as a pro hand painting them. This will always a risk with factory painted miniatures. We will be taking special care to minimize any foreseeable problems, like big ol’ grins on characters who shouldn’t be smiling. We’re going to do everything in our power to make these minis look great, but with 5500 deluxe painted games, with almost 100 minis in each one, at scales of 28mm, there is only so much we can do. But we will do everything we can to get you all great minis! (Because we're gamers and want cool painted minis too).

Remember if you decide that you don't want painted minis, you can change your survey up until Midnight on Monday and can choose either painted or unpainted minis for no extra cost. Remember, the best way to get a hold of us is through Kickstarter messages or via email through [email protected]!

Tonight we’re also doing a live-tweet of the 2013 Evil Dead remake at our Twitter account, and we’d love to have you join in! Just use #evildeaddays!

Dev Blog 10/24, Add-Ons & Mini-Expansions: The Final Chapter
over 7 years ago – Tue, Oct 25, 2016 at 12:50:24 AM

Let's do this thing.

Revenge of Hitler

Contains: Hitler Figure, 13 Boss Deck Cards, New Tokens, New Rules

The freakin' fuhrer himself has been brought back from hell and he's trying to put together an army. The Hitler Boss card can either be mixed into the normal Event deck and played per usual or you can start with Hitler on the board and focus on just fighting him—and not worrying about the portal.

Hitler is a single Boss with but one card, but here's the catch: the Necronomicon tattoos all over his body make him (mostly) invulnerable. The Boss deck containing the other dozen cards are unique Events that occur independent of the normal Event deck, which is still going on. These Boss Events have an effect and a trigger. The effect happens immediately and the trigger is what you have to do to get that card discarded and have a new one show up. How bad could these Boss Events be? Well...

  • Blitz: Shuffle all discarded enemy cards back into Event deck; draw top two enemies and play them. Discard by discarding five unique Ex-Mortis pages.
  • Reinforcements: Draw next four Enemies from Event deck and place each adjacent to Hitler (unused cards are shuffled back in); place Page token on the one with the highest health. Discard by defeating the enemy with page (also collect page).

So how do you beat him? Three of the cards mixed in the Boss Deck are Vulnerable cards and allow Hitler to be hit. Once Hitler has been hit FIVE times—there's a card that shuffles the Vulnerables back into the Boss Deck—then he's defeated!

Mirror Ash Madness

Contains: Mad Ash figure, 12 Doppelganger cards, Doppelganger tokens, New Rules

You may have just gotten hit upside the head, but that's not why you're seeing double. An Evil (but surprisingly reasonable) Ash has crawled out of the cursed mirror to make things a little crazier for everyone. Again, play specifically against Mirror Ash and his mayhem or mix him into the Event deck and deal with him as he comes up on your favorite play mode.

The Doppelganger cards are Enemy cards to represent all the Human and Deadite player characters as Doppelgangers. Mirror Ash creates replicas of the players to imprison the real versions in the Mirror Dimension and lead his Doppelganger posse out into the unsuspecting world beyond. Of course, Deadite nonsense only complicates matters. This is how it shakes out:

Each player has a Doppelganger on the board, represented by their opposite figure (if the player is human, the Doppelganger is Deadite, and vice versa). That figure also has an enemy card, with health (no virtue) and a unique ability that functions as usual enemy abilities do, as well as an enemy token. The goal is to trap Mirror Ash in the Mirror Dimension, but the Doppelgangers will protect him. The kicker? Any damage dealt to a Doppelganger also applies to the player counterpart. Doppelgangers follow a modified enemy AI to make them more interesting and challenging foes.

The Classic's Last Ride

Contains: The Classic figure, 1.5"x6" Road Tiles, 6 Road Cards, New Rules

The Classic is in play and this shakes up the board in interesting—and literal—ways. There's no new win condition, but this extra is incredibly adaptable with any other play mode. Players can now hop in the car and travel quickly across the board, but must stay on the road tiles (which are 1x4 squares). The small deck of road cards have directions like "move 2 roads and add 1" or "remove 2 roads and move 1" or the like. These allow the player to move and adjust the skinny road tiles on the board to get at least in the general direction of where they're going.

The road is a tricky thing: everyone seems to keep losing track of it. Road tiles are laid anywhere around or on the board, moving other tiles out of the way in order to fit. That means squeezing a road between the Cabin and Work Shed, through the woods, around the Killer Trees, wherever! This keeps the board shifting and changing subtly throughout the game, since roads will be laid, moved, and removed each time the Classic is used.

And that's it! That's what you get!

Except... Gooseneck Henrietta boss rules (included in all Deluxe games) and Apple Head boss rules (also included in all Deluxe games). Stay tuned for those! And now I think that's everything. Oh, and Solo mode. There are A LOT of ways to play this game!

Happy Monday, folks!

Taylor

PS. Colored figure files will be up in a day or two with a full update to elaborate.

Box Art Sleeves/Ex-Mortis Comics
over 7 years ago – Wed, Oct 19, 2016 at 12:22:55 AM

Hello Deadite Slayers,

This update regards changes to Box Art Swap and Tales of the Ex-Mortis Comic Bundle.

After talking with our manufacturer, we've mutually decided that including several versions of box art for the deluxe version will complicate and bloat production time beyond what would be reasonable. Instead they will be providing us with cardboard sleeves that will go over the deluxe Ex-Mortis box. There will be an Evil Ed sleeve and a Standard box design sleeve. These box-art sleeves will be Kickstarter-Exclusive and are high quality—the Evil Ed sleeve will have metallic foil printing for Rick Domeier's signature. Additionally, Evil Ed Tier Backers no longer have to pay $5 to switch to Ex-Mortis box or Standard Box. This is something we—and Panda—thought would be a lot easier to offer than it was. We decided to go with an option that keeps production manageable, but still gets you quality. There is now an upside to everyone who wanted multiple box designs, as the sleeve allows you to have both!

As for the Tales of the Ex-Mortis Comic Bundle, Kickstarter orders have now surpassed what we have in stock. We will be printing a Tales of the Ex-Mortis trade paperback that collects everything contained in the three comic issues. Backers will be getting the comic bundles until we run out, and then will be getting the trade paperback.

We're sorry for any inconvenience for the changes post-campaign. Pledges are not locked down until the end of the month, so please feel free to adjust your pledge accordingly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please message us using Kickstarter messenger or email us at [email protected]

Fill Out Your Surveys! + Production Update
over 7 years ago – Sat, Oct 15, 2016 at 12:23:02 AM

Hey Soul Suckers,

Here's your friendly reminder to fill out your Backerkit survey! There are still over 1000 backers who have not filled out their surveys. So we want to be sure you all get everything you want!

Surveys close on midnight on Oct. 31 PST. After that backers who have not completed their surveys will only have access to add-ons in the Groovy Gameplay Bundle+ and the Accessory Bundle.

Now for a production update! We're still on track to get the whole game to Panda Manufacturing by November 1st so they can start up the presses. We also have some work-in-progress models for you! These are for the last two stretch goals, the car and weapon tokens:

Now these are more detailed than the final minis will be. (For example, the teeth on the chainsaw will not be that small on the final minis.) We're working with Panda to make sure that our models will look good at the size they'll be printed at. We'll be showing you updated models as they come in.

Taylor's next Add-On update will be coming soon, as well as more production updates. If you have any questions, feel free to message us directly on Kickstarter.

Stay Groovy,

Team Space Goat
